2009 in retrospect

Only 9 blog entries this year (including this one) despite this being one of the biggest one yet in terms of unforgettable moments. It's pretty well covered on twitter though with over 2800 tweets.
I moved back home in March after 3 good years in London. Great to be back with friends and family and preparing the nest for our beautiful Saga who arrived on the 28th of May. Gulla the love of my live is my hero and you can't really begin to describe the emotional roller coaster associated with becoming a father so I'll leave it at that. Those who have met me know how I feel. Video on Facebook.
I went back to Zimbabwe in September to be the best man at my friends wedding. It almost turned into a funeral when I watched him clumsily roll with an hippo attack and get away with bruises. Great trip all around, walked with lions, got licked by a giraffe, rode an elephant and saw a lot of game in the wilderness. Pictures.
Did a career move into gaming and joined Sauma Technologies Iceland where I have been working with some very talented people on launching the game Hours of War and alongside that I worked with another group of people on founding the Icelandic Gaming Industry. Since April that group has achieved a lot of things including an extensive coverage of the Icelandic Gaming Industry in Edge Magazine
In November I volunteered to lead the technical side of organizing a National Assembly in Iceland. It was an amazing adventure and I enjoyed working with a group of highly talented people on bringing 0.5% of the Icelandic population to a gathering where everyone participated in positive discussion about the values and future of our troubled country.
… and I have a cat now named Elvis.
The nice thing about Iceland is that it only takes 6 months to build a network of social media geeks, entrepreneurs, gaming companies and get on the pages of national newspapers. I believe next year is going to be an exciting one.
It's nice to live 10 minutes away from our parents, friends and family. Quality of life here is great compared to most places on earth. We're going to pay higher taxes and have less money to spend for the next decade or so but we'll pull through somehow. We always do.
I thank all of you for a great 2009 and look forward to all the things we'll do together in 2010
I would give this year 5 stars if it was a movie.
